Our Activities

When you visit our Shop Less Ordinary in the South Luangwa, Zambia our friendly team will welcome you with open arms (and a cool drink on a hot day!). You are given a free tour of our workshop and can then choose to experience our fun organized activities from a jewelry making class to snare bead making competition. Or if you just want to browse and shop from our ethical Beauty from Brutality collections in person, that’s ok too!

Jewelry Making Activity

This activity consists of a warm welcome and workshop tour where we explain our creative, conservation story. Next we show you how to coil a snare bead and let you try doing this yourself before you settle down on our outdoor veranda to enjoy some refreshments. You sit at a colorful table with an array of beautiful beads to design with.

We explain how to create your jewelry, from working out the needed size, tips on how to design and an explanation and support on how to finish off each piece.  We then remain with you throughout the activity answering questions about jewelry making, our way of life or the history of Mulberry Mongoose. When you have finished designing your pieces we help you 'close '  them so they are ready to wear. We package your items in our locally made gift bags for you to take home.

You make two items and the whole workshop takes approximately 40 – 60 minutes and costs $40 per person.

There is no minimum group size and a current maximum group size of 14 people.

Group activity

We do a complimentary talk with refreshments. Our friendly Zambian team explain the history of Mulberry Mongoose and talk about their local way of life in the Luangwa. They are happy to answer questions and take photos with you. Guests then enjoy a workshop tour, learning about a snare trap and how we make a snare bead followed by shopping in our beautiful store.

This activity takes approximately 30-60 minutes and is complimentary.

How to easily incorporate this into your safari timetable

To enjoy this as part of your safari holiday we recommend booking it after your morning game drive and brunch; so around 11.30 -12 pm. Or, we are an ideal activity if you are taking a break from safari game drives for the day and looking to explore the local community further.

Your lodge can drop you at our store on request or we book a local taxi to collect you if preferred. This costs $10.

We are easy to get to, just a 15-minute drive from the South Luangwa National Park main gate, and close to all leading lodges in the main Mfuwe area. We are based on the only tar road that runs from the South Luangwa National Park Gate to Mfuwe International airport.

We are open 7 am – 4.30 pm each day and can open early and late with advance request.

To book email us here or ask your lodge or travel agent to do this.
