Snare chain earrings in lapis lazuli short
Snare chain earrings in lapis lazuli short
Design detail: Timeless and sophisticated, these delicate earrings connect you to Africa and our rural Zambian team.
When snare traps are collected in by brave rangers they are manipulated into a circular shape before being safely stored in containers. The circle is also a universal symbol for unity. Taking over 2.5 hours to handcraft, our team transform the snare traps into delicate circle shapes which are linked together with locally made metal rings. This represents the powerful values of interconnection and purposeful creation.
Fusing reclaimed poachers' traps, local materials and international beads we celebrate and invest in the African bush through creativity. Handmade by our rural Zambian team each piece is slightly different. Every sale donates to Zambian conservation.

Meet the Maker
"Knowing that through what we do we preserve our childrens’ future gives me great joy" – Grace Mwanza, jewelry maker.
We are a team of 11 rural Zambians, 7 of us women. Community is at the heart of our culture and our families are large and interconnected. We call our cousins brothers and sisters, and we each share our home and salaries with at least 8 family members.
The Mulberry Mongoose team proudly provide for over 100 loved ones with their income.
Materials that Make a Difference
We make every snare trap bead and piece of jewelry by hand; you can feel the energy and power of our work in each piece.
We design with locally sourced materials capturing the unique beauty of the African bush whilst maximizing support for our community.
To date we support over 50 rural artisans and entrepreneurs and buy over 30,000 locally sourced beads annually. This impacts the lives of over 300 people in our rural African community.
Donation per sale
With every piece sold we donate $2.50 to conservation and remove brutal snare traps from circulation. We have raised over $150,000 to date and cut up over 39,000 poachers’ traps.
We donate to Conservation South Luangwa, the Zambian Carnivore Programme and Conservation Lower Zambezi. These Zambian NGO’s, in partnership with DNPW and supported by WWF and the EU, work tirelessly and bravely to protect our wildlife.
Our Pangolin and Rhino conservation designs donate an additional $2.50 per sale to the Pangolin Crisis Fund and Stop Rhino Poaching respectively.
Packaging, Personalising & Gifting
Every piece of jewelry comes with a locally made chitenge gift bag, label & flyer sharing our story and a handwritten note from your jewelry maker.
We can personalize selected pieces by the craft of metal letter stamping. The product pages show which pieces can be personalised or click on our Personalisable gifts category.
We love making free videos and handwritten gift notes for your loved ones. Drop us a note in the comments section with your special request.

Product Care
Snare wire is a metal and rusts, but this is easily managed. The best way is to use P1200 sandpaper to gently remove rust; we provide a piece in each online order.
Every product page has a care instruction of either: Keep away from water, Water resistant or Water proof.
Many locally sourced materials are fragile but not all. Guinea fowl feathers are extremely resilient and can be reshaped using your fingertips when the feathers split; they must be kept flat during travel. Seeds are not waterproof.
